The United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties is seeking volunteers for the 2015 Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program. VITA is a free service and will aid qualifying local residents in claiming their tax refund dollars, officials said. The 2014 VITA program resulted in a $842,893 impact on the community through tax returns, officials said. The 2015 VITA program is set to open in late January. Volunteers are needed from January to April to assist with the sites. Volunteer hours are flexible and depend on the volunteer’s availability. Experience with tax preparation preferred but not required. Volunteer responsibilities will include greeting and screening to tax preparation officials said.
