One driver who tried to cross the water covered Elam Mill Road Slab was rescued Sunday after his pickup truck skidded into Stones River said Rutherford County Sheriff Robert Arnold. This is the second water rescue in less than one month at the same location where a mother and two children drove their vehicle onto the rushing waters covering the slab and became trapped. “Both victims were very lucky they did not drown” Sheriff Arnold said. “There were two high water signs posted and the water was up and unstoppable.” The driver Clinton Powers age 18 of Woodbury was rescued by swift water technicians from the Emergency Medical Services’s Special Operations Response Team. Passenger Brentan Mihm 21 swam to shore. EMS paramedics treated both the driver and passenger but they refused transport. Deputy Michael Parsons charged Powers with reckless endangerment. He was booked into the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center where bond was set at $1500.
