The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has taken another fugitive off its Top Ten Most Wanted list after he was captured in Mexico today while applying for a passport while there illegally.
Toby Lynn Young, 29, was wanted by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office for Felony Escape, the Cannon County Sheriff’s Office for Failure to Appear and the Board of Probation and Parole for Parole Violation. He was added to TBI’s Top Ten Most Wanted list in October of 2008. Young was attempting to apply for a passport in Mexico under his brother’s name and did not possess any official papers to be in Mexico. Young confessed to his true identity and revealed that he was wanted in Tennessee. The US Marshals and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation worked to confirm Young’s status as a fugitive through birth records and warrants.
In September 2004, Young led Dekalb County deputies on a high speed chase after stealing a van and running into several vehicles including a patrol car. He was charged with Theft over $1,000, two counts of Aggravated Assault, Reckless Endangerment, Felony Evading, Criminal Conspiracy and Driving on a Revoked License. Young escaped from custody after overpowering a guard at the jail.
Young will be transferred tomorrow to Phoenix, AZ and will be booked as a Fugitive from Justice. He will then be extradited to Tennessee to face his charges.
