Mildred Davenport Reed, 96, passed away, January 18, 2022. She was a resident of Readyville, TN. until she went to go live with her daughter a year ago in Charlotte, NC. She was born in Cannon Co., the daughter of the late Ellis and Samantha Davenport.
Survivors include her children, Betty (Larry) Claxton and Russell (Mary) Reed; grandchildren, Kimberly Reed, Meredith (Currie) Gilbert, Ryan (Amy) Reed, Matt (Kim) Claxton and Brittney Reed; great grandchildren, Katee (Tommy) Melton, Mac Gilbert, Emme Silcox, Carter Gilbert, Reed Claxton, Ryder Reed and Kate Claxton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas R. Reed; her son, Ray Dave Reed and siblings, McKinley, Clarence, Ceburn and Guy Davenport, Duff Mingle, Mamie Tenpenny, Clara Mae McKnight, Odie Miller and Myrtle Claar.
A graduate of Woodbury Central High School, Class of 1944, Ms. Reed previously worked at the shirt factory, Kroger from 1957 until 1970. Ms. Reed was also a business owner in Cannon Co owning businesses, Pat’s Drive In, Reed’s Grocery and Russell’s Market. She was a member of the New Hope church of Christ and also Woodbury church of Christ.
When she retired her biggest enjoyment was working in the yard with her flowers. She also enjoyed watching sports on TV and she liked basketball best. She has always been very tough and worked hard all her life. She has been a great example for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 2 pm Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at Riverside Cemetery with services conducted by her grandchildren.
