Liquor Stores……Yes…Sales Tax…..No

Liquor Stores are coming to the Woodbury City Limits now that 55.45% of the registered Woodbury City voters voted yes on the issue.  407 voters gave the green light while 327 voters (44.55%) voted no.  Mayor Harold Patrick who ran unopposed in the City Of Woodbury Mayor  Election received 624 votes while 4 other votes were write-ins.  There will be no changes to the present City Of Woodbury Aldermen as all 6 aldermen were re-elected.  Charlie Harrell led the way with 510 votes, 500 voters voted for Dottie Duggin while Faye Knox garnered 474 votes.  Lois Larimer received 450 votes and Adam Melton got 443 votes.  Joann Davis fills the last spot with 401 votes while Chuck Holt came in last in the race with 351 votes.  Mayor Roger Turney ran unopposed in the Mayor of the City Of Auburntown race receiving 77 total votes while one vote went to a write in candidate. Only three aldermen ran for election and all three were elected Rita Davis led the way with 78 votes and Tina Fletcher got 64 votes while Winfred Gaither took 60 votes.  The only other local issue on the ballot was the referendum regarding sales tax.  If approved the local sales and use tax rate would have gone from 1 3/4 percent to 2 3/4 percent as is the sales tax rate in all surrounding counties. The schools ended up losing out on a valuable source of increased revenue as Cannon County Voters voted against the matter with 3122 voting against while 1438 voters voted for the sales tax.   Republican Bob Corker grabbed 3198 Cannon County Votes to win the majority of votes from Cannon County in the United States Senate Race.  Democrat Mark E. Clayton finished second with 1088 votes.  Martin Pleasant received 92 votes while Kermit Steck garnered 50 votes.  43 Cannon County votes went to Shaun E. Crowell while James Higdon received 30 votes.  Troy Stephen Scoggin collected 21 votes, Michel Joseph Long had 15 votes and David Gatchell received 12 votes in the Senate Race.  There were 6 Cannon County write in votes for the Senate Seat
In the United States House 6th District Republican Diane Black collected 3094 Cannon County votes  while Scott Beasley garnered 536 votes, Pat Riley ended up with 399 votes while there were 8 write in votes.  Tennessee House of Representatives 46th District.   Republican Mark Pody ran unopposed with 3173 votes while 75 Cannon County voters voted a write in vote. The Republicans dominated the Cannon County as the Romney Ryan ticket took 66.32 percent of the presidential vote in Cannon County 3308 voters voted for Mitt Romney for President while 1560 voted for current President Barack Obama
Overall 5077 registered Cannon County voters turned out to vote.  2088 voters participated in absentee and early voting while another 2989 voters turned out to vote at the polls.  There are 8448 registered voters in Cannon County
