Lions Finish Undefeated In January

The Cannon County Lions finished the month of January undefeated but it definitely wasn’t easy.  The Lions faced Upperman in Baxter Friday night and after falling behind by 9, the Lions came back and tied it up at the end of the first quarter.  Cannon continued to force Upperman to play up tempo in the second quarter and the Lions grabbed a 10 point lead at half.  Upperman would not let the game get away and towards the end of the fourth quarter had an opportunity to tie the game and possibly force overtime.  But what appeared to be an over and back call that was not whistled, the Lions were able to get a fast break out of it and score to cushion the lead by four en route to a 63-57 win. Josh Reuhlan paced the Lions with 24 points   The Lions move to 22-5 on the year with two games left on the schedule.   The Cannon County Lionettes were able to keep pace with the District leading Upperman Lady Bees but couldn’t quite get over the hump.  Once again a big third quarter from Upperman forced the Lionettes to make a comeback.   The Lionettes got as close as 6 before falling 39-36 with the final 3 point attempt for Cannon counting at the buzzer.  Kristen Hale led the Lionettes with 11.
