Having lived a full and joyful life, Hoyd Edward Bowman, 89, passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at his home in Manchester, TN. He was born on January 31, 1933 to Hoyd Littleton Bowman and Minnie Pearl (Smith) Bowman and grew up in the Geedsville Community in Cannon County with his siblings, Keith, Ruth, Doris, Peggy, Louise, Shirley, and Richard.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Mary Gannon Bowman; two children, Eddie (Jane) and Tammy (Jeff) Spry; four grandchildren, Amanda Spry Burton (Jonathan), Tyler Spry (Jennifer), Jacob Bowman, and Sarah Bowman; and three great-grandchildren, Turner Burton, Mary Claire Spry and Kenzie Burton; and his three remaining siblings; Peggy, Louise and Richard.
Above all his worldly accomplishments (and there were many), he was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ. Ed was a member of the East Main Street Church of Christ in Manchester. After serving for a period in the United States Army and then some other jobs, Ed had an exemplary career with the Tennessee Department of Safety where he was promoted through the ranks over his 27+ years of service. Ed and Mary also had a successful dairy operation on their farm on Geedsville Road.
All who knew Ed were very well aware of his love and devotion to his family. He took great pride in the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. He also became a very loving and nurturing great-grandfather. Ed was a person of deep spiritual convictions and lived a very principled life in all his dealings with others.
Graveside Services will be at 10 AM Friday, September 2, 2022 at McMahan Cemetery with Bro. Richard Bowman & Bro. Jeff Spry officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to McMahan Cemetery or to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
