As the holiday season approaches, many look forward to a joyous time with family and friends. Unfortunately, some families in our communities are less fortunate, wondering how they will be able to provide a special Christmas for their children. With those families in mind, DTC3, the local television channel on DTC TV, will be producing a live telethon on Saturday, November 15, from 5 to 9 p.m. The event, called “DTC For Kids” will feature live entertainment and special guests throughout the four-hour telethon. This program will air on DTC3 and DTC3 HD (channel 303) in an effort to raise donations for charities in Cannon, DeKalb, Rutherford, Smith and Wilson counties. The telethon will also be streamed live online at www.dtc3.tv for all to see.
The charities include the Cannon County S.A.V.E. program, Cops for Kids in DeKalb County, Shop with the Sheriff in Rutherford County, Santa’s Shoppers of Smith County and Wilson County Christmas for All.
“DTC Communications is extremely excited about the potential to help needy children in our home counties this holiday season,” said Craig Gates, CEO of DTC. “Nothing tugs at the heartstrings like children, and even more so during the holidays. We are proud we can utilize our means to help as many children as we can in our area have a Merry Christmas.”
100 percent of the donations made during the telethon will go to these local charities. Those who call in to pledge donations will be asked to select which of the five charities they would like their donation to go to. Callers can also opt to split their donation among any of the five charities.
The program will be broadcast live from the DeKalb County Community Complex in Smithville and produced by the staff of DTC3. Telephone operators will be on hand to accept donations. People can call 464-KIDS (5437) throughout the telethon to make their pledges and donations. People are also encouraged to come to the DeKalb County Community Complex to watch the telethon in person.
“It’s our hope that with our viewers’ help, we can raise enough money to truly make a difference for children in need this Christmas,” said Nick Nokes, Video Production Supervisor for DTC3. “We have bookedentertainment and various guests for the event, and it’s going to be both a fun and rewarding show.”
Musical guests include area singers Mercedes Luna, Demytris Savage, Adam Overstreet, Hannah Eckert, and Suzanne Winfree, along with Chelsie Young and Tom Duggin, who will co-host the main stage events for this first-ever event on DTC3.
“It has been extremely humbling to see the way that people are coming together to make this telethon happen,” added Nokes. “With the help of our viewers and those associated with these local charities, I know we really can make a difference for our kids this Christmas.”
