Dorinda Mankin is still the interim administrator of elections even though her term expired following the certification of the elections by the Cannon County Election Commission during last nights special called meeting. The Commission was scheduled to discuss the consideration of a lawsuit regarding former Administrator of Elections Stan Dobson and possibly vote whether or not to reinstate him to that position. That conversation will not come up again until the next regular scheduled meeting December 10th. Mankin agreed to stay on as the interim until that meeting Elisha Hodge of the State Of Tennessee called chairman Matt Studd right before the meeting and suggested that the Commission wait to discuss the issue until after they themselves have sought legal counsel. Neither Dobson nor his attorney could comment on the matter. The Election Commission decided to table the mission statement of the Commission until a later meeting. The Commission voted 3-2 to approve to adopt a written policy for points of contact for further commission contacts with outside agencies in order to minimize confusion and errors. The goal is to get the outside agencies such as the State Election Commission to either have a representative present at Commission meetings to answer questions, or to email each commissioner with an answer to the question at hand. Members Sue Patrick and Jackie Gannon voted against the approval.
The final item on the agenda dealt with discussion of ways to show appreciation for all the poll workers. It was decided at this time to put together certificates of appreciation for all those that helped out.
The next meeting is Monday December 10th.
