Since December the Cannon County Commission has considered using the County Powers act placed into law by the General Assembly in 2000. The procedure would allow the county to charge up to one-dollar per square foot of any new construction. The impact fee would only be applied to new construction. The estimated earnings for the county was estimated at $40,000.00 annually. The act from the General Assembly was brought to the attention of commissioners by the Barrett Group. Late last year, commissioners retained the group to review all options available to the county government to improve the county’s revenue opportunities.
The resolution was identified as the School Facilities Tax. After continued review and discussion, the Commission voted to not adopt the resolution.
