Bruce Edward Smith

Mr. Bruce Edward Smith, 65, of Woodbury passed away unexpectedly on December 17, 2019.  He was born in McMinnville, TN on December 7, 1954.  He was preceded in death by his father, Harley Smith and a brother, Jimmy Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Deanna Jones Smith of Woodbury; mother, Ida Bell Bryson Smith of Woodbury; sons, Jamey (Joaney) Smith of Morrison, Christopher (Angelina) Smith of Council Bluffs, IA and Cory Smith of Woodbury; daughters, Whitney Smith and Arielle Smith both of Woodbury; sisters, Darlene Grooms and Brenda Brown both of Woodbury; and by 10 grandchildren, Justice, Harley, Ebin, and Kylie Smith, Alexia Smith-Lamb, Gabriel Smith, Wyatt Smith, Vada Smith, Carter Pearson, and Mason Thurman.

Mr. Bruce was a graduate Woodbury Central High School.  Through the years he worked as a painter and truck driver.  He also owned J. W. Market and Deli at Eastside for many years.  He and Mrs. Deanna met through family and celebrated 34 years of marriage in April.  He was a family man, they lovingly called him “Bruiser”.  He was a man who liked to do things his own way.  He enjoyed going fishing and was an avid film and movie buff.  He liked to sing at church.  He was a member of the former Grace Assembly of God, now, Hillside Fellowship Church.

Visitation will be held at Hillside Fellowship Church, 2999 John Bragg Hwy. Delia Arnold Knox

Delia Arnold Knox, 96, of Murfreesboro passed away Mon., December 17, 2019 at Alive Hospice.  She was born to her parents, Bently and Albridie Shropshire Arnold in Bell Co., Texas.

Survivors include her loving husband of 72 years, Robert Knox of Murfreesboro; children, Joy (Steve) Knox-Ritchie of Louisville and Dale (Mary Kay) Knox of Harrison Township, MI.; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jeremy) Nikodym, Jonathon (Leticia) Smith, Adam (Laura) Knox, Danny (Melissa) Knox and Larissa Knox-George; great grandchildren, Elliana Smith, Kaitlynn George, Sarah & Hannah Nikodym.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Roy Knox.
A member of East Main Church of Christ, Ms. Knox was a retired Secretary with Ford Motor Co.  She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed quilting.  
Funeral Services will be 11 am Friday, December 20, 2019 in the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home with Bro. Wayne Lankford officiating.  Interment will follow in the Riverside Gardens.  Visitation with the family will be from 9 am – 11 am Friday, December 20, 2019.

Ricky White Murphy

Mr. Ricky White Murphy, 59, of Woodbury passed away unexpectedly on December 16, 2019.  He was born on February 27, 1960 in Manchester, TN.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifton White Murphy and Helen Louise Hall Murphy and a brother, Ray Murphy.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Murphy; two sons, Clifton Murphy and David (BJ) Murphy both of Woodbury; two daughters, Beth Mount and Kayla (Joey) Nicholson both of Woodbury; a brother, Troy (Jean) Murphy of Woodbury; two sisters, Wanda Kay Mathis of Woodbury and Teresa (Jim) Parker of Watertown; and 17 grandchildren.

Mr. Ricky was well known in the community as a hard worker.  He lost a leg in a motorcycle wreck when he was a young man.  He used crutches to get around most of the time, but he could work harder and do more than most men with two legs.  He wasn’t afraid to tackle any kind of job.  Over the years he did many kinds of work.  He was a foreman with Asplundh Tree Service, a brick mason, hay hauler, fence builder, and all- around handy man.  Whenever you saw him Mrs. Ruth was right there with him.  They had been married 40 years in May.  They met working in a tobacco patch and Mr. Ricky saw from all the others there she was the right one for him.  He was always looking for work to do and many times he would have his family, including grandkids helping with the jobs.  He had his own way of doing things and would show his kids and grandkids how.  He enjoyed having them with him. He loved his family, especially, his grandbabies and his little dog, Big Baby.  He was a member of the Woodbury Church of Christ.

Visitation will be at Smith Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 from 4-9 pm.  Funeral services will be Thursday, December 19, 2019 at 2 pm in the Smith Funeral Home chapel.  Bro. Charlotte Louise Trail Duke

Charlotte Louise Trail Duke, 77, of Bradyville passed away Sunday, December 15, 2019 at Woodbury Health and Rehab.  She was a native of Cannon Co., Tn.

Survived by her devoted husband of 59 years, Doyle Duke of Bradyville; her loving children, Scott Duke of Woodbury and Kendria (Franz) Walkup of Woodbury; precious grandchildren,  Konner Blake Duke and Kolby Brandon Duke of Woodbury; devoted daughter-in-law, Denise Duke of Woodbury; beloved exchange mom to, Irene Fedoseienko of Los Angeles, CA. and her adoring sisters, Cathy (Jack) Hyatt of Bradyville and Lisa (Tim Tipps) Trail of Murfreesboro. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Hershel & Laura Spry Trail and her son, Tracy William Duke; brothers, Jerry Wayne Trail and Larry G. Trail.
Charlotte was a fine example of a wonderful Christian lady and was a member of the Woodbury Church of Christ.  She was a retired administrative assistant with the Cannon County Board of Education and the Cannon County Courthouse.  She was a foster mom, loved spending time with her family on beach vacations, shopping, flea markets, traveling and she loved gardening. 
Funeral Services will be 2 pm Wednesday, December 18, 2019 in the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home with Bro. Al Bugg and Bro. Andy Walker officiating.   Pallbearers include James Estes, Jerry Paul Foster, James Harris, Will Hyatt, Brett Trail, Kelly Trail and Kevin Trail. Interment will follow in Midway Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be from 4 pm to 8 pm Tuesday, December 17, 2019.

Jaylee Anaya Hackney

Jaylee Anaya Hackney passed peacefully in the arms of her loving parents on December 11, 2019 at Vanderbilt hospital.  She was born December 10, 2019, weighed 3 lbs. 12 oz. and was 17 inches long.

Jaylee was the daughter of Jamie and Julie George Hackney of Woodbury.  In addition to her parents, she is survived by her big sister, Jaysie and big brother, Jarren, maternal grandfather, Terry George of Hattisburg, MS.; maternal grandmother, Beverly King of Woodbury, paternal grandparents, Dwight and Rillis Hackney of Murfreesboro. Also surviving are several loving aunts, uncles and cousins. She was already loved by so many.

Jaylee was preceded in death by her grandmother, Oralia George.

Graveside services will be 11 am Saturday, December 14, 2019 at Riverside Gardens with her grandfather, Dwight Hackney conducting her service.

Ronald Dean Inyart

Mr. Ronald “Ron” Dean Inyart, 73, of Bradyville, TN passed away on December 10, 2019.  He was born in Huntington, Indiana on May 27, 1946.  His parents were the late Lester Ray Inyart and Virginia Elsie Gothard Inyart.

     He is survived by his wife, Roxanne Floyd Inyart; son, Matthew (Stephanie) Inyart of Carthage; daughters, Carolynn Ann (Ronnie) Campbell of Huntland and Madeline (Daniel) Mahon of Tullahoma; five grandchildren, Cooper Inyart, Coleman Inyart, Courtney (Joe) McBee, Dean Harrell, Emma Harrell and a sixth grandchild expected soon. 

     Mr. Inyart was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force serving during the Vietnam War.  During his time in the military, he was stationed in various states.  His last duty station was in Smyrna.  He soon found his way to Cannon County where he made his home in the Bradyville community.  He met his future wife, Mrs. Roxanne, at the Good Samaritan Hospital, while she was working as a nurse. He was working for the Cannon County Ambulance Service.  They celebrated 41 years of marriage in September. 

     He had a love for the community and wanted to serve.  He was the Chief Engineer and co-founder of the Mooretown Volunteer Fire Department. He also was a co-Captain and co-founder of the Cannon County Rescue Squad. He is a remaining a lifelong member at both organizations.  He was an EMT and was one of the first EMTs in the state to become IV certified.  He also taught CPR and First Aid classes to many in the community.  He was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout Leader for many years and coached boys baseball and girls softball.  He was a member of Mt. Moriah Lodge #18 in Murfreesboro, where he was a Master Mason for over 40 years. 

     His work life was very active. He helped start a private fleet for delivery at Colonial Corp. for the shirt factory.  He drove a school bus route for Coffee County Schools for 13 years.

Visitation will be held at Smith Funeral Home on Friday, December 13, 2019 from 4-6 pm. Kyle Douglas Todd

Kyle Douglas Todd, age 18, of Woodbury passed away Saturday, December 7, 2019 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Survivors include his parents, Jeff & Jeannette Gaither Todd of Woodbury; Sister, Kaley (Carter) Rogers of Woodbury; Grandparents, Karen Gaither of Woodbury, Ronnie & Judy Todd of Woodbury, & Kay Hargis of Smyrna; Great Aunt & Uncle, Nancy & Larry Elkins of Murfreesboro; Cousin & Best Friend, Tommy Melton; and Girlfriend, Laura Beth Nichols of Woodbury. Many aunts, uncles, cousins, & friends also survive.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Jimmy Gaither.

Kyle was a member of the Hillview Baptist Church and was a Senior at Cannon County High School where he was to graduate in May.  He worked at Tractor Supply Company and the Woodbury Co-Op.  He was a member of the Future Farmers of America and enjoyed spending time outdoors whether it be hunting, fishing, or camping.

Liza Dawn Luna

Liza Dawn Luna, age 47, of Monroe passed away Thursday, November 21, 2019 at her home.  She was a native of Cannon Co.

Survivors include her mother, Ann (Randy) Lewis Vinson of Liberty; Son, Caleb Luna of Smithville; Sister, Nakia (Anthony) Lawson of Smithville; and Fiancee, Christopher Franklin of Monroe.

Liza was an artist and made beautiful paintings.

Ben Walter Batey

Ben Walter Batey, 81, of Morrison passed away Wednesday, December 04, 2019 at Woodbury Health and Rehab.  He was born in Rutherford Co., TN.

He is survived by his wife 59 years, Glenda Russ Batey of Morrison; children, Glenn Batey of Morrison, Timothy Batey of Bainbridge, NY, Deborah Page of Afton, NY and Shannon Dewey of Morrison; grandchildren, Alexander (Megan) Batey of Murfreesboro, Jeramy (Tani Mara) Batey of Enid, OK, Tracey (Joshua) Williams of Oxford, NY., Shaina (John) Hinman of Windsor, NY., Kelly (Lee) Hicks of Bradyville, Naomi (Clint) Phillips of Bradyville; 13 Great Grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews also survive.
Mr. Batey was preceded in death by his parents, James Taylor and Willie Smartt Batey and his siblings, Lillard, Dudley, George, J.T. Bobby, Thomas, Harry Batey, Marion Chinn, Mabel Blair and Pauline Rowland.  
Ben was a member of the Barren Fork Baptist church and was a farmer.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing.  
Funeral Services will be 1 pm Saturday, December 7, 2019 in the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home with Bro. Dave Lawson and Bro. Leon Edwards officiating.  Interment will follow in McMahan Cemetery. Roy Allen Sweeney, Jr.

Mr. Roy Allen Sweeney, Jr., 71, of Lewisburg passed away on December 3, 2019.  He was born on February 13, 1948 in Columbia, TN.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Allen Sweeney, Sr. and Evelyn Willie Sharpe Sweeney, also by two brothers, Frank Sweeney and Tony Sweeney.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Faye Sweeney; daughter, Tanya (David) Suiter of Christiana; brothers, David (Candice) Sweeney of Manchester and Steve Hunter of Columbia; a sister, Alice (Ray Underwood) Sweeney of Rome, GA; sister-in-law, Peggy Sweeney of Murfreesboro; one granddaughter, Zandra Hope Lynch; and three great grandchildren, Nevaeh Lynch, Faithlynn Lynch, and Timothy Nicholson.

Over the years Mr. Sweeney worked many construction jobs as a heavy equipment operator and a dump truck driver.  Most recently he was working for the Bedford County Highway and Solid Waste Department.  He and his wife had been married 44 years.  In his younger years he liked to come to Woodbury and ride horses. When he wasn’t working he enjoyed fishing.  He liked to go gambling and he raised game roosters for fun and sport.  You could often find him in his recliner watching football or NASCAR.
