Mildred Alexander Paschal

Mildred Alexander Paschal, 94, of Readyville, TN. passed away Thursday, February 13, 2020 at Woodbury Health and Rehab. 

She is survived by her niece, Mary Forrest Paschal Hancock and her husband, Dwight of Murfreesboro; grand nephew, Matthew Thomas (Lauren) Hancock of Nashville; great grand niece and nephew, Ella Harper Hancock and Sims Forrest Hancock; special friend and caregiver, Darren Whaley and family of Woodbury.

A native of Cannon Co., Ms. Mildred was the daughter of the late Oscar B. and Mettie Bell Alexander.  She graduated from Auburn high school and Draughons Business College.  After graduation, she was employed with Alvin C. York Medical center as the secretary to the Director from 1944 until 1981.   She retired after 38 years.  She was married to Donald Paschal who preceded her in death.  They were married in 1948 and were together for 52 years until his passing. Ms. Mildred prided herself in being the wife of a TN Walking Horse Trainer. 

Ms. Paschal enjoyed her family, traveling and Sunday rides.  She loved walking horses, attending horse shows and talking about politics. 

She was a member of the First Baptist church of Woodbury and TN Walking Horse Breeders and Exhibitors Assoc.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Milton (Helen) Alexander and sister, Nola (Clark) Turney.

Funeral services will be 2 pm Saturday in the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home with Bro. Richard Bray and Bro. Bobby Zumbro officiating.  Interment will follow in the Riverside Gardens.  Visitation with the family will be Saturday from 10 am until time of service.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Riverside Gardens cemetery %Woodbury Funeral Home.

Olean Bush Markum

Olean Bush Markum, 90, died: Saturday., Feb. 8, 2020 at Woodbury Health & Rehab. She was a native of Cannon County.

Survivors include; sons:  Perry M. Markum (Linda) of Woodbury and Larry Markum of Murfreesboro, 4 Grandchildren:  Belinda Ruth, Adam and Alan Melton all of Woodbury and Andrew Mullican of McMinnville also surviving are 5 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ivy Monroe “Buster” Bush and Elizabeth “Lizzie” Stacey Bush, her husband, McDonald “Mack” Markum and 2 daughters, Glenda O. Mullican and Susan E. Melton.          

Ms. Olean worked in the Cannon County school system as a cafeteria cook for over 25 years.  She was a wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker.  She enjoyed cooking, fishing, gardening, and being with her family.

Gary Oliver Parker

Gary Oliver Parker , 82, passed away Tues., Jan. 28, 2020 at Woodbury Health Care.  He was a native of  Vancouver, WA. and lived in Woodbury.

He is survived by his children, George M. Parker, II of Woodbury, Leslie Parker Medieros of MA., Joan K. Garretson of CA., Julia Ann Schaeffer of S.C.; grandchildren, Rachel Smith, Robert Garretson, Sarah Johnson, Casandria Doyle, Jessica Schaeffer and Brooke Schaeffer. 6 great grandchildren also survive.
Mr. Parker was preceded in death by his parents, George Marvin Parker and Lillian Beatrice Hasbrook and his wife, Linda Avanell Davenport Parker.
A member of the Baptist Church, Gary was a retired mechanic with United Airlines.  He was also a member of the Army National Guard, the Schriners, Scottish Rite, Eastern Star in California and Tennessee, a 33 degree Mason at Cannon Lodge #774.

Peggy Joyce Mercer Thomas

Peggy Joyce Mercer Thomas, 79, passed away Thurs., February 06, 2020 at St. Thomas Rutherford.  She was a native of Jackson Co., Tn.

She is survived by her sons, Donnie (Lisa) Thomas of Woodbury and Daryl Thomas of IL.; grandchildren, Amber (Jay) Harlan, Jason (Jeanetta) Thomas, Jeremy Thomas, Donnie Thomas Jr., Christopher Thomas, Amber (Caleb) Milligan, Erica Martin and Tyler Martin; special cousin, Ted Barnhill of FL. Several great grandchildren also survive.
Ms. Thomas was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie & Lula Mercer; her husband, Donald Buford Thomas; and her daughter, Cheryl Appleby.
A member of the Methodist Church, Peggy was retired from Genesco as a Receptionist.  She loved her family and her grandchildren were the most special to her.

Grady Lee Williams

Grady Lee Williams, 52, of Bradyville passed away Wed., February 5, 2020 at his home.  He was a native of Rutherford Co., Tn.

He is survived by his siblings, Cheryl (William) Holt of Bradyville and Nelson B. “Dill” Williams of Warren Co.; special friend and caregiver, Frances Genovese of Bradyville; nieces and nephews, Kim, Phoebe, Danny, Nathan, Gayle, Matthew and several great nieces and nephews; uncle and aunt, Grady Morton Williams of Charlotte and Ann Ruth Williams of Smyrna. 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Cass & Thelma Elizabeth Wallace Williams.  
Mr. Williams was a good Christian man that lived a simple life.  He had great faith and was a farmer.  He was a 1st mate on tow boats on the Mississippi, Tennessee and Ohio rivers.
A memorial service will be held later at the Nolensville Cemetery.

Alvin Carl Jones

Alvin Carl Jones, 77, passed away Tues., February 04, 2020  at Woodbury Nursing Center following an extended illness.  He was a native of Warren County.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Opal Jones of Woodbury; son and daughter-in-law, Barry Lynn & Monica Jones of Woodbury; grandson, Brent Lynn (China) Jones of Woodbury; sister, Carolyn Diane (Ace) Boren of Warren Co.
Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his parents, Major Jones & Lucille Williamson Jones; 3 brothers, Bobby Jones, Bennie Jones and Buddy Jones.
A member of the Woodbury United Methodist Church, Carl was a retired business owner and florist at Woodbury Flowers where he and his wife operated for 44 years.  He was a member of the B.O.C Cloggers and Square dancers where they traveled on many occasions with the Lions Club to international conventions.
Memorial Service will be 5 pm Saturday, February 8, 2020 in the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home with Bro. David Lilley officiating.  Memorial visitation with the family will be from 2 pm until 5 pm., Saturday.

Betty Sue Gilley Chumbley

Betty Sue Gilley Chumbley, 81, of Woodbury passed away at her home Mon., February 03, 2020 following an extended illness.  She was a native of Cannon Co.

She is survived by her daughters, Lorraine (Charles) Yancy of McMinnville, Karen Tigert of Woodbury and Ellen (Thomas) Mears of Woodbury; grandchildren, Scarlett (Michael) Graham, Nicole Mears and Candace (Charlie) Rockhart; great grandchildren, Hayden & Carter Rockhart; siblings, Charles Gilley of Murfreesboro, Patsy George of Woodbury and Peggy Couch of McMinnville and special caregiver and friend, April Ferrell of Woodbury.

A member of the Woodbury Church of Christ, Sue was a retired clerk at Colonial Corp.  She loved to quilt and spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Betty Sue Bogle Allen

Betty Sue Bogle Allen, 79, of Woodbury passed away Sun., February 02, 2020 at the home of her daughter-in-law. She was a native of Cannon Co.

She is survived by her daughter, Heather (Jeremy) Smith of Manchester; stepchildren, Steve Allen of Woodbury and Donna Chase of Murfreesboro; daughter-in-law, Robbie Bogle of Smithville; grandchildren, Tristan, Kaitlin & Brady Smith of Manchester, Bud (Jenny) Bogle of Smithville; step grandchildren, Rachel and Matthew Chase and great grandchildren, Hailey, Brooklyn and Levi Bogle.
Ms. Bogle was preceded in death by her parents, John D. and Pauline Ledbetter Bogle; her husband, Ray D. Allen and her son, Jeffery Lynn Bogle. 
A member of the Baptist church, Betty was a retired receptionist at Quality Tool.  She enjoyed reading and gardening.

James Robert Mayo

James Robert Mayo, 89, a native of Cannon County, passed away peacefully at the Woodbury Health and Rehab Center on Monday, January 20, 2020 after an extended illness.  He was a member of the Church of Christ and a farmer.

He was  the son of the late James  “J.B.” and Eva Helen Preston Mayo.  He was also preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Margil and Pauline Mayo Campbell. 

James is survived by his niece, Wanda (Larry) Parker; 2 great nephews, Brian (Carla) Parker and Blake (Natasha) Parker; a great great niece, Emily Parker; a great great step nephew, Wyatt Coffman all of Woodbury; and longtime good friend, Steve Crittenden.

Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, January 23 at Riverside Gardens with Bro. Stan Hollandsworth officiating.

Visitation will Wednesday 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Woodbury Funeral Home.

Meda Blair Carr

Mrs. Meda Blair Carr, 98, of McMinnville was born on November 16, 1921 in McMinnville, TN.  She passed away on January 20, 2020 in Murfreesboro, TN.  She was the daughter of the late, John Carlton Blair, Jr. and Mary Elizabeth Kirby Blair.  She was also preceded in death by her husband of nearly 70 years, Noble R. Carr; a daughter, Brenda McCarthy; brothers, Walter Blair, Tommie Blair, Luther Blair, Carlton Blair, Henry Blair, Howard Blair, Sr., Johnny Blair, Fred Blair, and Charlie Blair; sisters, Flora Markum, Ida Ferrell, Dora Bonine, Martha Foster, Alta Cotton, Vinnie Forte, Jewell Blair, and Mary Newby, in addition several other infant siblings preceded her, a grandson, Charles Tyson Ferrell, and a great granddaughter, Cynthia Ann Breedlove.

She is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Cooper of McMinnville; grandchildren, Bret McCarthy of Alexandria, VA, David Carr of Kentucky, Adam (April) Cooper of McMinnville, Brian (Carolina) Cooper of Murfreesboro, and Kimberly Chrisman of Columbia; 11 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; as well as, numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

Mrs. Meda grew up in an enormous family even for that period.  They were raising a big family in one of the hardest times in America’s history.  Even so, they found a way to feed, clothe, and have a very close family bond.  She learned early on from her mother how to be selfless for the sake of her family.  When they were lucky enough to have chicken, she would take the back or a wing for herself so the others could have the better pieces.  She was a graduate of Woodbury Central High School.  She was also a member of the Baptist Church.  

Mrs. Meda had a sweet personality and never wanted to put anyone out to do something for her.  She was a devoted wife and mother.  She wasn’t afraid of hard work.  She and Mr. Noble built their home together in 1963.  They raised their daughters and lived a good but simple life.  Their home was located right on the Cannon and Warren County lines.  They would joke about sleeping in Cannon County and eating in Warren County.  He passed away one-month shy of their 70th Anniversary.  You would hardly see one without the other.
