Molly Hall Cunningham

Mrs. Molly Hall Cunningham, 74, of Readyville, TN passed away on October 3, 2021. She was born in Murfreesboro, TN on April 30, 1947. Preceding her in death were her parents, Percy and Martha Frances Batey Hall; brothers, Bill Batey and Bobby Hall; and sisters, Patty Hall, Robby Hall, and Polly Young.

She is survived by her husband, Tom Cunningham of Readyville; son, Eddie Gentry of California; step-son, Thomas E. Cunningham, Jr. of Clarksville; brother, Jim Hall of Murfreesboro; and several members of her church family.

If you had to summarize Mrs. Molly in 3 words, faith, family, and fishing would be the first to come to mind. A member of Woodbury United Methodist Church, she was passionate about serving the Lord. Her life’s ministry revolved around food. Volunteering not only with Woodbury UMC’s food bank but also the Seventh Day Adventist’s, there is no telling how many pounds of food she’s helped distribute over the years. She had a giving heart that worked cheerfully to care for others, and it translated into how she interacted with her family.

Mrs. Molly was a devoted wife and mother. She loved her husband and children unconditionally, and there wasn’t a thing she wouldn’t give for them. As mothers do, she sacrificed her time and talents for her family. Quick to forgive and forget, her heart knew no bounds. She honored her marriage vows beyond the call of duty and was there for all of her family for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health.

Over the course of her life, she made many memories with her family, especially fishing with Mr. Tom. Going out on the water to enjoy God’s creation was a hobby they shared, so they decided to make it into a career. Commercial fishing for profession and for leisure provided them many stories to share. Mr. Tom would take her down close to the water and remembers her infectious smile. Even when her health began to decline, she still loved to go fishing with her husband.

It is with great sorrow that the family lays Mrs. Molly to rest. She fought the good fight, finished her race, and held on to her faith.

Barbara Jean Hayes

Mrs. Barbara Jean Hayes, 67, of Smyrna went to be with the Lord on September 28, 2021. She was born on April 19, 1954, in Nashville, TN. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Gertrude Osborne Mentlow, and her husband, Jimmie D. Hayes, Sr.

She leaves to cherish her memory a son, Jimmie (Jessica) Hayes of Woodbury; daughters, Tosha Hayes of Tampa, FL, and Norma Jean Hayes of Nashville; her sister, Norma Jean Brinkley; grandchildren, Dakota Hayes, Hannah Foulk, Haylee Foulk, and Linsey Arnold; as well as numerous other relatives and friends.

Growing up her father worked and lived on the Hoover Farm in Antioch. She developed a love for the animals and the country lifestyle there, which cultivated her unique persona described by her family as “country as cornbread.” At an early age, she found her God-given gift and passion for singing.  Many times when she was on the Hoover farm, the animals served as her audience as she sang. She used to pretend they were applauding for her and would give her very best bow.

Her vocal range was quite impressive. She had the ability to sing essentially every vocal part of a song down to a baritone. Mimicking any singer from Aretha Franklin to Dolly Parton, she did convincing impressions of some of the greats. She made her life into a musical, performing songs to fit the situation or writing her own on the spot. Coming up with her own lyrics for songs on the fly was a great source of fun and laughter for everyone.

Singing praise with the church at the Sand Hill Church of Christ was a natural fit, and Mrs. Barbara’s melodic voice could be heard throughout the building. She loved the Lord and reading her Bible. Family and friends would often see her making numerous notes in her Bible as she studied. Jimmie mentioned it looked like her Bible had gone through a shredder with all of the notes she had stuck in it. God came first in her life, but there was no doubt that family came second.

Her daughters were the recipients of her mothering love and care. Norma Jean required extra love and attention due to her special needs, and Mrs. Barbara devoted herself to this task. True to her country upbringing and southern heritage, she was an excellent cook. Even though she was allergic to many different foods, she would cook anything for her family. She could work wonders with even something as simple as boiled chicken and make it delicious. The family will hold a private celebration of her life and spirit. Patricia Diane Fuller McCullough

Mrs. Patricia Diane Fuller McCullough, 70, of Beechgrove, TN passed away on September 23, 2021. She was born in Murfreesboro, TN on December 19, 1950. Preceding her in death was her father, James Alvin Fuller.

She is survived by her children, Gary Waddell and Tina Waddell both of Coffee County; her mother, Dessie Jacobs Fuller of Murfreesboro; her protector, provider, and companion, Michael Humphrey of Beechgrove; her grandchildren, Dalton Elms and Mckensie Elms; her brothers, Jimmy Fuller of Murfreesboro and Greg Fuller of Cincinnati, Ohio; her husband, Jerry McCullough; her aunt, Joyce Kennington of Georgia; and her uncles, Doyle Jacobs of Beechgrove, Clyde Jacobs of Murfreesboro, and Kenneth Jacobs of Nashville.

Mrs. Patricia was a member of Gethsemane House of Prayer and a strong woman of faith. Her passion was telling people about the Lord, and she did so by word and by deed. To be a friend, you must first be friendly, and she gave more to others than she would ever take from them. The love she had for people created a network of friends far and wide. Several people, whom she’d never met before, had the opportunity to connect with her through Facebook. They continued reaching out and stayed in touch over the years, forming friendships from afar.

Though she had several people in her life, Mrs. Patricia’s prioritized her family. All she ever wanted to be in life was a mother, and she loved Gary and Tina dearly. They went on a family vacation every year to Florida and also enjoyed several trips to the lake and waterskiing. Her devotion to her children became a cornerstone of her personality. A simple woman, she didn’t ask for much and remained content no matter what cards she was dealt in life. That contentment allowed her to forgive abundantly and love without conditions.

Her best friend, Michael, made unconditional love all the easier with the love and care that he showed to Mrs. Patricia. They worked well together and shared laughs, tears, dreams, and stories with one another. He was there for her in the darkest and the brightest of times. They attended church together until Mrs. Patricia’s health prevented her from being with her church family, but her family knows that if she could have one wish come true, it would be for everyone to know Jesus.

Visitation will be held at Gentry-Smith Funeral Home on Friday, October 1, 2021 from 5-6 pm. Memorial services will be Friday, October 1, 2021 at 6 pm in the Gentry-Smith Funeral Home chapel. Cathy Johnson Woodward

Mrs. Cathy Johnson Woodward, 52, of Woodbury, TN passed away on September 23, 2021. She was born in Toledo, OH on June 17, 1969. Preceding her in death were her parents, Kenneth and Florence Johnson; husband, Stephen “Woody” Woodward; brothers, Tom, Terry, and Mike; and sister, Cheryl.

She is survived by her son, Dustin Johnson of Murfreesboro; daughter, Amanda “MeMe” (Mikey Jimenez) Woodward of Murfreesboro; grandchildren, Aubrey and Logan of Murfreesboro; mother of her grandchildren, Kristi Gatlin of Murfreesboro; brothers, Danny and Doug; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.

If you ever met Mrs. Cathy, she was sure to leave you with an unforgettable first impression. She possessed glamour and grace that was sure to leave you with a smile on your face. Her children rarely remember a time that she was not fixed up, and she was adamant about having her nails, eyelashes, extensions, tan, and everything else about her appearance put together.

Though said as a joke, she truly was a “classy Cathy.” Her Christian values and faith shined through in how she dressed and everything she did. Her apparel was modest, and she strived for perfection, especially when it came to her home. She centered her life around her household and around her husband. Everything had a particular place and stayed tidy, and Dustin and Amanda knew they were home when they smelled the mixed fragrances of vanilla candles and bleach.

Mrs. Cathy didn’t just focus on the material things though. She cherished and honored her relationship with her husband, Woody. They met around the age of 15, and at first, Mrs. Cathy couldn’t even stand him. However, eventually, Mr. Woody swept her off her feet, and the rest was history. Their relationship and marriage came first in Mrs. Cathy’s life, and Mr. Woody spoiled her by doing all of the cooking. They took their relationship and the investment in it and in one another very seriously.

But don’t let this paint the picture of a meek and mild woman. Mrs. Cathy had a feisty side, especially when it came to protecting her children or grandbabies. She also loved to laugh and have fun, and she created a lot of her own fun by being an animal lover. Her work as a veterinary technician helped her get to know God’s creation a little better. She loved her dogs Sadie and Daisy and taught them the command to “sit pretty.” They would sit on their back paws with the front ones held together in the air giving their best puppy dog eyes. Rather than sitting pretty, her cat, Ron, decided to sit lazy, choosing instead to lounge around the house.

All of the memories Mrs. Cathy left with her family come together to form a picture of love. She knew when to be tough and when to be soft, when to hold on and when to let go, and when to laugh and when to cry. The combination of her tenderness and extravagance made her an amazing mother and an even more amazing grandmother. She had a way with humans and animals that made both love her dearly. Her beautiful heart and beautiful soul will be carried on through all of the lives she’s touched.

Visitation will be held at New Beginnings Church (7700 George E Horn Rd, Nashville, TN 37221) on Saturday, October 9, 2021 from 2-3 pm. Memorial services will follow on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 3 pm in the New Beginnings Church chapel. Mr. Lee Woodward will officiate.
