Buford Wayne Campbell

Buford Wayne Campbell, 81, passed away Monday, February 21, 2022 at St. Thomas Rutherford.  A native of Cannon Co., he was the son of the late Landon & Beulah Phillips Campbell. 

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sarah Joyce Hendrickson Campbell of Woodbury; children, Janey (Randy) Cox of Eagleville, Anthony (Crystal) Campbell of McMinnville and Dian (Richie) Barabas of Woodbury; siblings, Nora Mai Keaton and Lynwood (Linda) Campbell all of Woodbury.  8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren also survive.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Jesse, J.T., and Johnny Campbell, Mazel Gannon and Ora Lee Gunter.

A member of the Methodist church, Mr. Campbell was a retired truck driver where he worked in construction.  He enjoyed collecting guns and watching western movies.

Graveside services will be 11:00 am Wed., February 23, 2022 at Sycamore cemetery with his son, Bro. Anthony Campbell officiating.  Pallbearers include Richie Barabas, Randy Cox, Cody Crawford Michael Hendrickson, Charley Gunter and Luke Campbell.

Joe Daniel Davenport

Joe Daniel Davenport, 85, passed away Thursday, February 17, 2022 at his home in Woodbury.  A native of Cannon Co., he was the son of the late Joe A. and Pauline Daniel Davenport.

She is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sue Hall Davenport of Woodbury and his daughter, Joanna Davenport of Woodbury.

Mr. Davenport served as a member of the National Guard where he was a Lieutenant.  A member of Sanders Fork Baptist church, he was a deacon, church clerk and Sunday school teacher.  Mr. Davenport retired from the Cannon Co. school system after 39 years. During that time, he was a teacher, guidance counselor and school superintendent from 1980 until 1988.  Being born and raised in Cannon Co., Mr. Davenport treasured the connections he made with his students and their families for generations.  He made lifelong friends with his fellow teachers and colleagues.   A member of the Woodbury Lions Club, he was also instrumental in forming the Auburn and Cannon County Historical Society.  Joe enjoyed farming and he raised Hereford and Beefalo cattle. 

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Sunday, February 20, 2022 in the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home with Bro. Marvin Davenport, Bro. Paul Lane and Bro. Wayne Hall officiating.  Pallbearers include Bob Melton, Andy Hall Kendall Watts, Sammy Hall and Anthony Hall.  Honorary Pallbearers include Jim Stone, Bobby Dutton, Charley Harrell and Franklin Daniel. Interment will follow in the Riverside Gardens.

Aubrey Jernigan

Aubrey Jernigan, 84, passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at St. Thomas Rutherford.  A native of Cannon Co., he was the son of the late Bronson and Annie Rogers Jernigan.

Mr. Jernigan is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bernice Vassar Jernigan of Bradyville; daughter, Teresa (Donald) Sonner of Readyville and brother, French (Janet) Jernigan of Bradyville. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Sewell, Gene and Kenneth Jernigan.

A member of the church of Christ, Mr. Jernigan was retired from Consolidated Utilities as an Inspector.  He had previously worked for Hurst Construction and Tillet Brothers.  Aubrey also did dozier work for people but he mostly enjoyed being a farmer raising beef cattle.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Saturday, February 19, 2022 in the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home with Bro. Charlie Gunter officiating.  Visitation with his family will be from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm Friday, February 18, 2022.  Interment will follow in Thyatira Cemetery.

Homer Lee Young

Homer Lee Young, 86, passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at his home in Woodbury.  He was born in Dekalb Co., Tn., the son of the late Reece Young and Lillian Arnold Young Rogers.

Mr. Young is survived by his wife of 60 years, Judy Witty Young, son, Scottie Lee Young, grandchildren, Jennifer, Cory and Cody Young and siblings, Reba Prater and Doug Young all of Woodbury.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Reece Young and Lillian Arnold Young Rogers, daughter, Belinda Young, brother, Jimmy Young, sister and brother-in-law, Christine & Maxie Paull and Brother-in-law Dwayne Prater.

Homer was a member of the Baptist church.  He was a hard worker and had worked several jobs in his life some including sawmills, drilling wells and making rocking chairs for 15 years.  He also worked at LaVergne Co-Op for 10 years and retired after 25 years with Cummings Signs where he was a welder.  Homer loved horseback riding and being outdoors.  Above all he loved his family and enjoyed spending his time with them.

Visitation with his family will be from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm Friday, February 18, 2022 at Woodbury Funeral Home with graveside services to follow at 1:30 pm at Amity Cemetery with Bro. Greg Mitchell officiating.

Marian Bernadine Long

Marian Bernadine Long, 96, of Woodbury passed away Sunday, February 13, 2022 at Stones River Hospital E/R.  She was born in Bogota, IL., the daughter of William and Maude Ferguson Chesnut.

She is survived by her children, Dian Long White and her husband, Andy, Cheryl Long Parker, Terry Long, Joyce Long Bateman and Jerry Long; grandchildren, Kelly (Josie) Sissom, Dek (Melanie) Sissom, Britan (Jon) Huddleston and Tammy Parker; great grandchildren, Elleana (Jared) Nave, Sammuel Sissom, Akristia Sissom, Austin Sissom, Tyler Giles, Mykirah Giles, Emma Giles, Chary Gles, Maddie Kate Huddleston, Ensley Huddleston, Braylan Giles and Kinslee Giles.

Ms. Long was a member of the Free Methodist church and a retired Free Methodist minister.  She enjoyed reading her bible, playing the piano and flower gardening.

Bonnie Lee Sullins Vance

Bonnie Lee Sullins Vance, 90, of Murfreesboro passed away February 12, 2022 at Adams Place.  She was a native of Cannon Co. and the daughter of the late Dan & Emma Simpson Sullins.

She is survived by her siblings, Ellis (Barbara) Sullins of Readyville, Norma Jean Sullins of Murfreesboro and Nancy (Jerry) Sissom of Woodbury.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Lacie Sullins, Cecil Sullins, Betty Mingle and Fred Sullins.

A member of the Kingwood Heights church of Christ, Ms. Bonnie was the Lab Supervisor at the Good Samaritan and Stones River Hospitals.  She loved working, going to church and watching sports.

Visitation with her family will be after 10 am Monday, February 14, 2022 with funeral services to follow at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home with Bro. Herb Alsup.  Interment will follow in the Cherry Cemetery.

Michael Dwight Foutch

Michael Dwight Foutch age 49, of Liberty passed away February 8, 2022. He was born May 21, 1972 to his parents, the late Teddy Foutch and Betty Vickers Foutch. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his grandmother, Bobbie (William) Chapman.

Mr. Foutch was a member of Alexandria First Baptist Church, he was a Tool and Die Maker, and worked at Wal-Mart.

He is survived by his wife, Nicola Foutch of Liberty; children, Taylor Lynn Foutch of Liberty, Jesse Dwight Foutch of Liberty, Thomas Michael Foutch of Liberty, and Matthew Dakota Foutch of Smithville; aunts, Glynda (Melvin) Barrett of Woodbury, Linda Vickers of Woodbury; several cousins also survive.

A Celebration Of Life will be held at Alexandria First Baptist Church with Bro. Billy Friel officiating, date and time has not been set and will be announced later.

Visitation will be Monday February 14, 2022 at 4:PM till 8:PM at DeKalb Funeral Chapel.

Lura Woods Parker Boyd

Lura Woods Parker Boyd, 96, of Woodbury passed away Thursday, February 10, 2022 after a short illness.  A native of Cannon Co., she was preceded in death by her parents, Youree Woods and Altie Mae Haley Woods.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Wanda Parker of Woodbury; grandsons, Brian (Carla) Parker and Blake (Natasha) Parker all of Woodbury; great grandchildren, Emily Parker and Wyatt Coffman and stepdaughter, Dorothy Gerber of Murfreesboro.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Alvin, Randall, Claris, Houston and Kenneth Woods and stepdaughter, Helen Smitty.

Ms. Boyd was a member of the Ivy Bluff Church of Christ and was retired from Perfect Equipment.  She enjoyed making quilts and baskets.  She loved her flowers and gardening.

Visitation with her family will be from 10 am until 2:45 pm Saturday, February 12, 2022 at Woodbury Funeral Home with graveside services to follow at 3 pm in Riverside Cemetery.

Jimmy Donald Lester

Jimmy Donald Lester, 66, of Woodbury passed away Saturday, February 5, 2022 at Centennial Medical Center. He was born in Murfreesboro to his parents, James and Marie Garrett Lester.

He is survived by his wife, Toni Jackson Lester of Woodbury; children, Donald (Misty) Lester of Murfreesboro, Jimmy M. (Tory) Lester of Murfreesboro, Russell (Catrina) Lester of Hillsboro, Paige (Cameron) Bailey of Readyville, Blaine (Sierra) Rogers of Murfreesboro and Michael Justin Lester of Murfreesboro; siblings, Kenneth Lester, Judy Manning, Barry Lester, Roger Lester, Robert Lester, Richard Lester, Felix Lester, Gary Lester, Katherine Lester and Steve Lester.  Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, William Lester, Alice Ashford and Michael Lester.

Jimmy was the owner of Past Time Barbers and Billiards and also a retired private investigator. He enjoyed playing baseball, softball, bowling and playing poker.  Above all, he was a loving husband, father and grandfather.  He will truly be missed.

Wilma Sanders

Wilma Sanders of the Short Mountain Community died Sunday afternoon, at her residence.  She was born March 12, 1950 to her parents, the late Robert and Cora Lee Underwood Prater.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by Granddaughter: Heather Sanders; Brother: David Prater; Sisters: Novella Hodges and Carolyn Brown.  She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years Lincoln D. Sanders of the Short Mtn. Community; Children: Gary Douglas (Dorothy) Sanders of Smithville, Terry Wayne Sanders, Timothy Leon Sanders both of the Short Mtn. Community, Karen (Billy) Murphy of Florida, Denita Faye (Jesse) Roberts of McMinnville, Shonnie (Diane) Sanders of the Short Mtn. Community, Robert Nathan (Chen) Sanders of Murfreesboro, Vanessa (Steve) Murphy, Kathy Morton both of Smithville; Brothers: Michael Prater of the Short Mtn Community, Danny Prater of Dowelltown; Sisters: Lydia Murphy, Doreen Murphy and Cheryl Prater all of McMinnville; 21 Grandchildren; Several Great-Grandchildren; Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. David Murphy officiating and burial to follow in DeKalb Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be Tuesday 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM and Wednesday 10:00 AM until the time of the service at 1:00 PM.
