Early Christmas Gift?

Somebody got a 55″ LG LED TV for an early Christmas present after stealing it from a Hollis Creek Road Residence.  According to Cannon County Sheriff’s Department reports Deputy Lee Colwell answered a burglary call on Hollis Creek Road.  Upon arrival, Deputy Colwell spoke with Terry Reed.  Reed said he left his residence Tuesday morning to take his son to school and returned home.  In a 25 minute span in which he was gone, someone came in the house and took a 55″ LG LED TV that he had recently purchased from Aaron’s In Manchester.  There were no signs of forced entry.  Mr. Reed advised that it had appeared they had come through the sliding door on the porch.  The report goes on to say that Aaron’s of Manchester was contacted to verify the purchase and serial number.  Mr. Reed was under a lease on this particular TV that began in October.

Lions and Lionettes Split Games Against York Institute

The way that the Cannon County Lionettes lost to Smith County last Friday took some of the confidence out of the Woodbury team.  It was evident on the floor Tuesday night as the Lionettes traveled to Alvin C. York Institute.  Even though the Lionettes got the win by 10, 62-52 against the 2-9 Dragonettes, York stayed with them for two quarters going into halftime tied 20-20.  The Lionettes weren’t their usual selves as they had a high turnover rate and passed up taking open shots.  In the second half Kelli Davis stepped up for the Lionettes and after having to fill in for Erin Mc Reynolds at point guard after McReynolds fouled out hit 8 of 10 from the free throw line to help the Lionettes bring in the 10 point win.  Davis finished with a team high 20 points while Kendra Maynard was another key factor in the final period as she scored 7 of her 13 points in the frame.  The game was not only highlighted by the turnovers but also by the number of fouls called on both sides.  In addition to McReynolds, Autumn King also fouled out of the game with 7 points.  Kristin Hale netted 10 for the Lionettes as they move their overall record to 9-2 and District record to 2-2. The Lionettes will travel to Soddy Daisy High School for the first round of the Rhea County Holiday Hoops Tournament.  The team will play Ooltewah Thursday night.  The Lady Owls are 4-8.  Game time will be at 5:00 CST, 6:00 EST
17 lead changes and 9 ties signify a wire to wire basketball game.  And it was exactly that as the York Institute Dragons boys team slid by Cannon County 70-67 in overtime.  Just like the girls game, the boys game was called very tightly.  In fact Cannon had three of their starters foul out of the game while York had two players foul out.  The Lions didn’t give up in the fight as they forced overtime as Garrett McReynolds hit two free throws to get the Lions to the extra stanza before fouling out of the game.  Turnovers in overtime hurt the Lions but Cannon had a chance to force a second overtime.  After A.J Daniel hit a desperation 3 with time running out and the Lions down by 6, Cannon called a timeout before the buzzer sounded.  The officials put 5-10ths of a second back on the clock.  York’s halfcourt long inbound throw resulted in the ball going out of bounds without touching anyone so that error meant that Cannon would inbound underneath their own basket down by 3. After throwing it in to Briar Jakes who had to backpedal and catch it while throwing it up for a prayer before the buzzer sounded, Jakes missed the highly difficult shot giving Cannon their first district loss.  Jacob Nave fouled out of the game in the 4th but lead the team with 17 while Josh Ruehlan added 14.  Marshall McReynolds also fouled out with 11 points and Austin Martin and AJ Daniel were one foul shy themselves of finding themselves fouled out.  The Lions now are 8-3 overall 2-1 in district play
They will now play in the Rhea County Holiday Hoops Tournament Thursday night as they draw a tough first round assignment in the 5-4 Soddy Daisy Trojans.  Game time will be at 8:00 CST/9:00 EST at Soddy Daisy High School.

Lions And Lionettes Road Trip It To Jamestown Tonight

The Cannon County Lionettes will get the opportunity to bounce back after a frustrating loss to Smith County Friday night as they travel to Jamestown to meet the York Institute Lady Dragons.  York started out the season with a 1 but then lost 10 consecutive before Saturday’s 6 point win against Stone Memorial.  The Lionettes are 8-2 overall and have a 1-2 district record.  The Lionettes swept the season series against York winning in their gym last December 80-15 and then knocking them out of the postseason 66-24 in the first round of the district tournament. The York Dragons are 6-7 overall but are tied with the Lions boys basketball team at 3-0 in District play.  They have collected wins against Upperman, along with a one point win at Dekalb and a 3 point win at home against Smith County.  The Lions might have their hands full as Jamestown is always a tough place to play.  The Lions won both games during the regular season last year.  Game time tonight starts at 6:00.  WBRY will have the live broadcast beginning at 5:50 for the Coaches Corner.  You can hear the games live on AM-1540/FM-96.7 WBRY online at wbry.com and through the smart phones and tablets on WBRY by using the TuneInRadio app
