Former Cannon County Resident Involved In Road Rage Incident In Rutherford County
An apparent road rage situation led to one driver suffering a stab wound to his abdomen and a suspect arrested on an attempted murder charge Friday, a Rutherford County Sheriff’s supervisor said. Driver Charles Edward Jakes, 41, of Ewing Boulevard, suffered the stab wound during a heated argument on Cranor Road and Old Woodbury Highway, said Detective Sgt. Dan Goodwin. Jakes was treated by Emergency Medical Services paramedics and flown by LifeFlight helicopter to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. He was later released.
After consulting with District Attorney Jennings Jones and Assistant DA J. Paul Newman, Sgt. Goodwin charged suspect Jeff Robinson, 50, of Highship Road with criminal attempted second-degree murder.
The investigation showed Jakes and Robinson were speeding on Cranor Road when Robinson passed Jakes, Sgt. Goodwin said. They stopped at the intersection of Old Woodbury Highway where they started arguing.
Witnesses reported Jakes turned away and Robinson struck him in the back of the head, the detective said. Jakes turned around and pushed Robinson.
“He was stabbed by Robinson in the center right abdomen,” Sgt. Goodwin said.
Sheriff Robert Arnold recommended people who are the target of an angry driver should not confront the driver but immediately call the Sheriff’s Office at 898-7770.
