The Cannon County Lionettes got out to another fast start and built a big lead Friday night before coasting to a 54-43 win against Franklin County. The Lionettes got on the boards early limiting Franklin County to one shot opportunities building a 18-5 end of first quarter score. The inside game of the Lionettes provided a key factor in the 11 point win as Autumn King scored 12 points in the paint and Hailey Mooneyham provided quality minutes off the bench. Kelli Davis netted 13 to lead the Lionettes in scoring. Cannon County goes into this week with a 2-0 record. Three players finished in double figures for the Cannon County Lions and two came one point shy of accomplishing that stat as the Cannon County Lions gave fans a glimpse of what the future holds as the Lions used a smothering press to take over a close ballgame as the Lions beat Franklin County 72-57. In the first half, neither team could distance themselves from the other as there were 9 lead changes and 8 ties in the game itself. However in the third quarter after quickly evaporating a 8 point Rebel lead, the Lionettes showed a full court press that quickly turned things around giving Cannon the lead and never looking back. Josh Ruehlen led all scorers with 17, while Garrett McReynolds and Jacob Nave each added 16 in the win. Marshall McReynolds along with Austin Martin finished with 9 points each. Cannon County is now 1-1. Both teams will play on the road to nearby Manchester at Coffee County High School Friday starting at 6:00

Open Health Care Enrollment Continues Now Through Feb. 15th
Open enrollment for Obamacare began Saturday and consumers should expect fewer problems compared to last year’s disastrous rollout. Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell says improvements have been made to the Healthcare.gov website and that should translate into a smoother healthcare shopping and enrolling process. President Obama’s Affordable Care Act allows those who don’t have health coverage through their employer to shop for insurance through the federal website or online state exchanges. Following last year’s rollout, hundreds of federal employees worked for months rebuilding Healthcare.gov after a debut filled with glitches. If you bought your healthcare plan from the federal website last year, you don’t have to re-enroll. However, officials encourage you to get back on the website and compare benefits and prices because some new plans are available and others have changed. Consumers will only have about half the time to enroll this year. The deadline is February 15th to select or change your healthcare plan. If you want coverage to begin on January 1st, you have until December 15th to make your selection. You can call the Cannon County Health Department at 563-4243 ext 121 and make an appointment with Sarah Jenkins who is the Outreach and Enrollment Specialist in Cannon County.

They paid the supreme sacrifice for their country, so that we can live in a free nation and enjoy the precious freedom that we have today. And we don’t want to forget their families who sacrificed so very much.

Lionettes Leave Panthers Panting Tuesday Night. Lions Suffer Opening Night Loss
Snacks and drinks sold so quick at the concession stand at Brainerd High School Tuesday, they sold out and had to shut it down before the end of the girls basketball game between Brainerd and Cannon County. That wasn’t the only thing shut down though for Brainerd. The Cannon County Lionettes opened the 2014-2015 season in Chattanooga by shutting down the Brainerd offense for the first 7:42 seconds starting the game on a 26-0 run. Brainerd didn’t score until 18 seconds left in the quarter and by that time had committed 14 turnovers. Kelli Davis scored 13 of her game high 20 points in the opening frame. After settling down Brainerd was able to keep the second and third quarters close before Cannon outscored Brainerd 17-8 in the final quarter to win it 67-33. Autumn King finished with 12 points while Kendra Maynard fired up three three pointers to finish with 13 points. The nightcap between the Lions and the Brainerd Panthers featured a uptempo matchup between two teams that loved to run. Brainerd held a comfortable lead throughout the game leading by 16 at half. In the third quarter, Cannon started to find their rhythm converting turnovers to baskets and cut the lead down in half trailing by 8. That’s as close as they could get though as Brainerd would connect on several tough shot attempts and hit some clutch baskets to hold off the Lions comeback attempts. Brainerd won 70-58. Josh Ruehlen led all Cannon County scorers with 15 and Jacob Nave added 11. Brainerd finished with four players in double figures.
