Cannon County Schools recently honored Robert Pitts by dedicating the Legacy Hallway at Cannon County High School. The Hall preserves the history and accomplishments of Cannon County High School athletics and is now officially known as the Roberts Pitts Legacy Hall.
Pitts has served Cannon County Schools for over 57 years. Mr. Pitts began his career at Woodbury High School in 1967 before moving to East Side Elementary School as a teacher, coach, and principal from 1968 until 1987. After moving to work in the Central Office for a year, Mr. Pitts became principal of Cannon County High School, a position he held from 1988 until 2004. Mr. Pitts would then serve as principal of Short Mountain Elementary School from 2004 until 2020. Mr. Pitts then entered semi-retirement, returning to Cannon County High School to continue serving the school through grounds maintenance.
In his long career serving Cannon County schools, Mr. Pitts’s legacy of service and character has impacted multiple generations of students and created lasting and caring relationships with families throughout Cannon County. The name “Mr. Pitts” is well-known in our area and has become synonymous with a kind and caring heart that loves helping others and making students smile.
