Bypass Project Needs Funding According to TDOT

Unless the United States Congress comes up with a new bill to fund the Highway 70S Bypass, the project itself will continue to stall.  Wes Hughen with the Tennessee Department of Transportation gave an update to the Cannon County Commission about the project.  Hughen passed out 6 maps of the project itself.  Hughen said that there is a Transportation Planning report that selected some alternates for the environmental document that TDOT must have.  Hughen stressed that the County needs to decide what kind of road they want whether it be a 2 lane, or a 4 lane and where they want it.  Then the County must get together with its Regional Planning Organization to determine if this project is significant for the county.  However the Tennessee Department of Transportation operates under no debt whatsoever and because TDOT would be short on funds by almost a million dollars this will be a project that if the preliminaries were started now would not be  completed until at least 15 years from now.  The Cannon County Planning Commission will be talking about this issue in upcoming meetings.
